International Food Styling and Photography Conference in Boston

This weekend I will be traveling to Boston for the International Food Styling and Food Photography Conference that will be held at Boston University. It will be an intense three-day conference with some of the world's best professionals and I cannot wait.

After years of working in pastry kitchens, I came upon styling and photography almost by accident, but it really has been one of the best things that has happened to me. This weekend, I hope to learn some more new tricks and get insight on how others plan and work. It will be interesting.

I will be back next week with notes and hopefully behind the scene photos. And, let me know if any of you are attending. It would be great to meet you!

I'm eating sour grapes now hahaha ...! Actually, I wanted to go and already had the idea months ago after learning about it from Bea of La Tartine Gourmande. But as a poor student, the amount of money needed really scared me off! That's why I have to give this opportunity a miss ... Sad huh?

Anyhow, I'm looking forward to your reports on that LOL! I wish you a great fun there in advance. Enjoy the ride!!!

Regards,
Pei-Lin

I'm looking forward to seeing what information you come back with.

Like it was stated above your photos are already great, but I guess we could never learn too much, right?

Have a safe fun trip.

Notes, tips, behind-the-scenes photos? I can't wait! So very jealous that you're going to it.

What stunning photographs! I need some tips!

Your photographs and food styling are already fabulous so I can't wait to see what you have to say when you get back!

I am a food stylist in Montreal, and we have no such conferences here. I am kind off on my own here as the market is small and competitive. I really look forward to your notes and photographs. I have on my blog pictures styled by me that I did with a photographer and prop stylist and within my articles I post photos I have taken myself. The difference is huge in quality and I am slowly learning how to take better photographs. I imagine this learning process I am going through will only help me understand the photographers point of view (literally). Do you post photos styled and taken by you? If yes did you take photography courses? Your stuff is lovely to look at and I aspire to your level of quality pics.

I didn't even know such a conference existed. I would love to go. Maybe next time. I hope you have a wonderful time!

Great to hear you're going to boston. I have been thinking about it, but it's just too expensive and also kind of in the middle of wedding season ( I shoot weddings too) so unfortunately no way for me to attend. Looking forward to hearing and seeing your stories when you come back!

Bea said...

Will see you there. Have a safe flight! Bring a jacket. It's still cold these days ;-)

Go get them Aran!!! As I keep telling the world you are an amazing stylist, photographer & chef: you need to be lecturing but I have a sense its more in your soul than anywhere else.
Perhaps this will be were you can discover how to sell the images I always want to buy.
Hopefully you can get down to Quincy MAarkets food pavillion. Its unlike any other food court in America!!!

I am very jealous. I used to live in Boston (for about 5 years) and love the place. I couldn't imagine anything better than returning to see old friends as well as attending this conference. Maybe next time. I am really interested to hear what you (and some of the other bloggers around) learn. I just took a mini photography course here in Brisbane. There's not much available unless you're willing to pay out $$$$$. I do enjoy looking at photos and think you have an amazing eye.

tinkalicious said...

Enjoy your show. when you get back there is a little something for you at claim it, (or not)! I know some people are outawarded (is that even a word), and do not want to be bothered accepting any more, I get it and won't take offense (it can be time consuming to fulfill, I know). Anyway, hope you have a terrif week and see ya soon! tinks

Good luck at the conference. That is a great honour for you. I look forward to reading your experiences.

I love the blog and your attendance at the conference is more than merited.

Gee....I wish I had the funds to attend this, it sounds fantastic and I so need help with my food styling and photography. Hope you have fun there and learn lots of new things, although to be honest I don't see any room for improvement in either your styling or photography which to me looks absolutely perfect. Thanks as ever for your fabulous inspiration, Patricia

I hope you have a marvelous time! I wonder could you tell us where those darling little red and white bowls that you use often in your berry photos come from? The little one at the top with the red swirls and gorgeous baby blue interior. And I think I've seen a cute little stripey one, and maybe the one in your banner which is more like spots? Were they a set? Or were they just a happy accident?!

can't wait to hear all about it aran!!

Qué bueno poder asistir a un congreso de este tipo, de cosas que te apasionan y te encantan. Espero que lo disfrutes muchísimo (y que luego nos lo cuentes, claro).

Un beso, buen viaje y feliz estancia.

Enjoy - I'm sure you'll find many of the people you meet surprised to hear that you are self taught.

Julia said...

I was at the conference, and I'm so disappointed I didn't get to meet you! I'm the one who asked Bea from La Tartine Gourmande a question about how to get more traffic to a blog.
Perhaps we can meet at the next one!

Aran said...

Julia- I remember that question. hope you enjoyed it. i am still processing everything and hopefully i will write about it in the next couple of days.

Mallory Elise said...

so lucky. how was it? anyone from brasil? i hope not. hehe. you went to a conference--i went to the beach! but--what did they say about cutting boards and spoons? ive been told they are "over done and passe" what do you think?

Anonymous said...

Hi Aran,
I sat with you at lunch on Saturday and you gave me your card so here I am checking out your blog. It is beautiful! I am new to food blogging so I find your blog and story very inspirational.

franci said...

I made your peaches and frangipane tarts. The were a big hit! Thank you! Your desserts are amazing, im sure it's your european taste :)

Aran said...

Mallory-I didn't meet anyone from Brazil. As far as cutting boards, knives, etc... I don't think they are out. I think utensils that make sense with the dish really can enhance a photo. Sometimes this is all about trends. Things come and go.

Anonymous- thank you very much. this was a great experience wasn't it?

Franci- great to hear!

Thank you everyone!

Why don't you come visit me as well?
At sweeterhomes.blogspot.com I have a great contest where you can win a subscription to House Beautiful.
At sweeterlivin.blogspot.com I have a fun challenge for all bloggirls that like to decorate.

See you soon!
